How to Comb Tangles Out

MAUI, HAWAII – Aloha. I’m Synneve, the great hair guru, and I’m here teaching you all of my salon secrets. Do you have extremely tangly hair when you get out of the shower? Well, I sure do. It’s a complete rat’s nest. Follow these steps and I’ll help you straighten out your knotty hair.

Step 1 - Once you’ve gotten out of the shower and towel dried your hair, choose a leave-in conditioner. If you have coarse or normal hair, choose a leave-in conditioning crème. If you have fine hair, use a light conditioning spray.

Step 2 - Read the directions and follow them carefully. I like to use about a nickel size amount of conditioner. If you have longer, thicker hair, you can use a little more. Rub the conditioner between your palms and your fingers. Apply to the center back first then spread throughout. Be sure not to apply any kind of conditioning products directly onto roots. This will make them flat and greasy. If you are using a leave-in conditioning spray, make a muscle and spray lightly while lifting up sections of your hair to make sure you’re getting the underneath. Whether you choose a crème or a spray, start with a small amount first and then apply more if you need it.

Step 3 - Choose a comb or a brush. I like to use a paddle brush because it seems to glide through the hair gently without ripping it out.

Step 4 - Start in the back with the underneath section of hair. Once you’ve removed the tangles in that section, release more hair and continue to brush or comb out the tangles. Then release the next section of hair and repeat the same technique. You’ll follow these steps until you’ve reached the top and the tangles have been removed.

Remember when combing out your tangly hair, it’s best to work in sections and start at the bottom. Take your time and be gentle, so you don’t rip your hair out. Follow these steps and you’ll have tangle-free, healthy hair. For more Salon Secrets, visit loveinsideout.com. Mahalo and have a great hair day.
