MAUI, HAWAII — Aloha. I’m Synneve, the great hair guru, and I’m here sharing all of my salon secrets. Deciding to cut fringe is a big decision. Today, I want to teach you how to determine if fringe would look good with your face shape.

Step 1 – Push all of the hair away from your face. If your hair won’t stay back, you can use your hand, a clip, or a headband.

Step 2 – Evaluate your recession area and your forehead. This is your recession, if it seems to be receding or your have a lot of wispy, baby hairs growing in on your hairline; fringe would be a good idea for you. If you have a lot of blemishes, or wrinkles on your forehead; you also might want to consider cutting fringe.

Step 3 – Use your forefinger and thumb, start at top and measure the 3 sections of your face. The first section is your forehead area. Place your thumb on your eyebrow and your index finger at your hairline. Take that measurement and without moving your fingers, move your hand to the next section which is from your eyebrows to the tip of your nose. Note if there is a difference in the length of these areas. Next, without moving your fingers again, go to the next section and measure from the tip of your nose to the tip of your chin.

Step 4 – Note if any of these sections are uneven. For example, your forehead section might be longer than the other sections of your face. If so, then fringe would be a good idea for you. Or, your forehead might be shorter than the other sections, in this case use caution when cutting fringe.

Step 5 – The final area of your face to consider is between your hairline and your eyes. If you have a short forehead and this area seems to be small, you might want to avoid cutting fringe. This would close you in too much. It seems to be a safe distance on me, so I know fringe would look great.

Now that you know how to determine if fringe will look good on you, there are couple more decisions to make before you start cutting. Do you want straight across fringe or side angle fringe? How thick should they be? What’s the best way to style them? To answer these questions and learn more Salon Secrets, go to loveinsideout.com. Mahalo and have a great hair day.

Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for blessings. Regardless of how large or small the blessings, you can acknowledge them. It might sound silly, but it’s a perfect time to be thankful for your hair. No matter how thick or thin, curly or straight, you can give thanks for every strand.

Some people don’t have much hair. As long as you have some hair to work with, you can always make it better. I hear it all of the time in the salon, people usually want what they don’t have. If they have straight hair, they want curly hair and vice versa. Sometimes they want the impossible and forget to have gratitude for what they have.

Starting with your head of hair, I challenge you to be thankful for all areas of your life. Practice this year-round. Being appreciative will surprise you. You will immediately have a better outlook on life and notice improvements in everything, including your hair.

MAUI, HAWAII — Aloha, I’m Synneve, the great hair guru and I’m here teaching you all of my salon secrets. Today I want to teach you the different parts of a great hair day. Often people ask me how can I part my hair differently. Well, there are many different ways to part your hair and I’ll demonstrate a few.

Let’s start with a center part. Measure halfway in between your eyebrows and go all the way up your forehead. Comb your hair side to side. This is how you do a center parting.

Off-center part, choose right or left whichever you like. Go a little bit off the center, comb side to side. This is how you do a slightly off-center part.

Side part, you can choose right or left. Use half your eyebrow as your guide, you can either come straight back or you can angle it back towards your crown. This is a shallow side parting. If you prefer a more dramatic, deeper side part, then you’ll use your eyebrows as your guide. Go over to end just a little more, angle back towards the crown. Split it, side to side. This is a more dramatic, deeper side part.

Voluminous part, choose right or left and section the front of your hair towards the side. Then you’ll measure about an inch and a half from your hairline. Comb the hair behind this area straight back over your crown. Use this parting when you need more lift and volume.

Zigzag part, you can do it in the middle or on the side. Take the tip of your comb and start in the front. Zig one way, zag the other. Zig. Zag. This is a zigzag parting. If you like that part but want to change it up, you can do a deeper more dramatic zigzag parting. Use the same technique, take the tip of your comb, zig a little further. Zag. Zig. Zag. This is a deeper, more dramatic zigzag parting.

Centered side part, you’ll part your hair down the middle like I taught you earlier. Then you’ll choose a side, right or left. You’ll take about an inch from your hairline and comb this hair over to the side. This is a centered side parting.

So, get experimental and play. You’ve got nothing to lose. If you don’t like it, you can re-wet your hair and start over. I hope you have enjoyed this salon secret and have a great hair day.

MAUI, HAWAII . Aloha, I’m Synneve, the great hair guru and I’m here teaching you more of my salon secrets. Today I want to tell you how to part ways with bad hair days.

Many clients come into the salon and they ask me how they can get their hair to stay on a particular parting. Or they want to change their part, but they just don’t know how. Well, it’s easy and I’ll show you.

Step 1 – When you step out of the shower or water, blot your hair with a towel. Some women prefer to wrap their hair up in a towel. That’s okay, just take it down after 1 minute. If you don’t, then you’ll lose complete control over your hair.

Step 2 – After the excess water is removed from your hair and the tangles are gone, take a comb and part your hair any way you want it – down the middle, on the side, zigzag parting. Whether you are styling your hair right away or leaving it for later, make sure you part hair immediately.

If you follow these steps, your hair is sure to stay wherever you want it until you get it wet again. I hope you have enjoyed this salon secret and have a great hair day.

MAUI, HAWAII – Aloha. I’m Synneve, the great hair guru, and I’m here teaching you all of my salon secrets. Do you have extremely tangly hair when you get out of the shower? Well, I sure do. It’s a complete rat’s nest. Follow these steps and I’ll help you straighten out your knotty hair.

Step 1 – Once you’ve gotten out of the shower and towel dried your hair, choose a leave-in conditioner. If you have coarse or normal hair, choose a leave-in conditioning crème. If you have fine hair, use a light conditioning spray.

Step 2 – Read the directions and follow them carefully. I like to use about a nickel size amount of conditioner. If you have longer, thicker hair, you can use a little more. Rub the conditioner between your palms and your fingers. Apply to the center back first then spread throughout. Be sure not to apply any kind of conditioning products directly onto roots. This will make them flat and greasy. If you are using a leave-in conditioning spray, make a muscle and spray lightly while lifting up sections of your hair to make sure you’re getting the underneath. Whether you choose a crème or a spray, start with a small amount first and then apply more if you need it.

Step 3 – Choose a comb or a brush. I like to use a paddle brush because it seems to glide through the hair gently without ripping it out.

Step 4 – Start in the back with the underneath section of hair. Once you’ve removed the tangles in that section, release more hair and continue to brush or comb out the tangles. Then release the next section of hair and repeat the same technique. You’ll follow these steps until you’ve reached the top and the tangles have been removed.

Remember when combing out your tangly hair, it’s best to work in sections and start at the bottom. Take your time and be gentle, so you don’t rip your hair out. Follow these steps and you’ll have tangle-free, healthy hair. For more Salon Secrets, visit loveinsideout.com. Mahalo and have a great hair day.

MAUI, HAWAII — Aloha, I’m Synneve, the great hair guru and I’m here teaching you all of my salon secrets. Today, I want to give you a quiz. Fact or fiction? Everyone needs to shampoo their hair every day.

Actually, that’s a myth. Do you ever wonder why your hair does better on the second day? Shampooing is not one size fits all. Depending on your hair and your hairstyle, you may not need to shampoo every day. Experiment with your hair and it will tell you when it needs to be shampooed.

For fine and thin hair, you’ll want to shampoo more frequently. This will strip your hair of heavy oils that weigh it down. For medium, coarse and dry hair, you’ll want to shampoo less frequently. This will preserve the natural oils to help moisturize your hair, leaving it shiny and healthy.

Here are the steps I recommend when determining how often your hair needs to be shampooed:

Day one – Shampoo and condition as normal.

Day two – For fine and medium hair, keep your hair dry or rinse with just water. Don’t apply shampoo or conditioner. If your hair is dry or coarse and needs moisture, then keep your hair dry or wet your hair with water and apply conditioner.

Day three – If you have fine hair, you get to shampoo and condition. Medium hair needs to be kept dry or rinsed with just water. For dry and coarse hair, keep your hair dry or you can wet it water and use conditioner. Don’t shampoo unless it.s absolutely necessary.

Day four – Fine hair gets to stay dry or rinse it with water. If you have medium hair, shampoo and condition as normal. For dry and coarse hair, keep your hair dry or rinse it with water and condition.

Day five – Shampoo and condition fine hair. Keep medium hair dry or rinse it with water. For dry and coarse hair, you can keep it dry or rinse it with water and condition.

Day six – For fine and medium hair, keep your hair dry or rinse it with water. And for dry, coarse hair, keep your hair dry or rinse it with water and condition.

The next day, start the cycle over with day one.

So to recap, as a general rule, fine hair needs to be shampooed and conditioned about every other day. Medium hair, shampoo and condition every few days. Dry, coarse, frizzy hair, shampoo about once a week and condition every day. If you follow this advice, the health of your hair will significantly change within one week.

I recommend to use this as a guideline; look at your hair and your lifestyle to develop your own shampooing routine. Backing off the shampoo and conditioning more will help the integrity of your hair and save you time and money. Try these shampoo and conditioning tips and have a great hair day.

MAUI, HAWAII — Aloha, I’m Synneve, the great hair guru and I’m here teaching you all of my salon secrets. Today, I want to teach you the correct way to condition your hair.

Many people use way too much conditioner. Then they take it and put it front and center on the tops of their heads. They wonder why their hair is flat and greasy with no body.

There are some salon secrets when conditioning your hair. Here are the ones I recommend:

Step 1 – Pick the appropriate conditioner for your hair type. Read the labels carefully and select the best one for your hair and its needs.

Step 2 – Once you’ve shampooed your hair, or just wet it with water, place conditioner in the palm of your hand. For fine, thin hair use a very small amount. For medium to thick hair, you can use a little more. Remember not to use too much conditioner. It’s wasteful and this will save you money.

Step 3 – Rub Conditioner between your palms and fingers and then apply from the mid-length or ears down to the ends of your hair. Let me say this again, apply conditioner from the mid-length down to the ends of the hair. Once it has been applied to the ends first then you can run your fingers or comb to spread the conditioner throughout your hair.

Never apply conditioner directly onto roots. This causes roots to become flat and greasy.

Step 4 – Leave conditioner on your hair for 1 to 5 minutes.

Step 5 – Rinse thoroughly.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these tips for conditioning your hair. If you follow these steps, you’ll be on your way to a great hair day.

MAUI, HAWAII — Aloha, I’m Synneve, the great hair guru, and I’m here to show you all of my salon secrets. Today I want to teach you how to shampoo your hair. Sounds easy, right? Well, it’s a little more complicated than you might think.

Many people have never been shown the proper way to shampoo their hair. Some manufacturers recommend to shampoo rinse and shampoo again. Unless you have extra oily hair or it’s super dirty, these directions aren’t necessarily accurate. Over shampooing can strip your hair of its valuable natural oils. Then you have to use a lot of conditioner and styling products to replace these oils.

These are the simple steps I recommend when shampooing your hair:

Step 1 – Pick the appropriate shampoo for your hair type. Read the labels carefully and make sure it suits your hair and its needs.

Step 2 – Wet your hair throughout.

Step 3 – Dispense shampoo into the palm of your hand. I recommend to start with a small amount of shampoo first, then you can add more if you need it. This is better for the environment and saves you money. For short or fine hair, use a dime-size amount of shampoo. For thicker or longer hair, you will use a quarter or more.

Step 4 – Apply shampoo throughout your wet hair. Take time to give yourself a relaxing head massage. Work into a rich lather for at least a minute or more.

Step 5 – Rinse thoroughly and make sure you get all of the shampoo out of your hair.

Follow my simple shampooing steps and you’ll be on your way to a great hair day.
