MAUI, HAWAII — Aloha, I’m Synneve, the great hair guru and I’m here teaching you all of my salon secrets. Today I want to teach you the different parts of a great hair day. Often people ask me how can I part my hair differently. Well, there are many different ways to part your hair and I’ll demonstrate a few.

Let’s start with a center part. Measure halfway in between your eyebrows and go all the way up your forehead. Comb your hair side to side. This is how you do a center parting.

Off-center part, choose right or left whichever you like. Go a little bit off the center, comb side to side. This is how you do a slightly off-center part.

Side part, you can choose right or left. Use half your eyebrow as your guide, you can either come straight back or you can angle it back towards your crown. This is a shallow side parting. If you prefer a more dramatic, deeper side part, then you’ll use your eyebrows as your guide. Go over to end just a little more, angle back towards the crown. Split it, side to side. This is a more dramatic, deeper side part.

Voluminous part, choose right or left and section the front of your hair towards the side. Then you’ll measure about an inch and a half from your hairline. Comb the hair behind this area straight back over your crown. Use this parting when you need more lift and volume.

Zigzag part, you can do it in the middle or on the side. Take the tip of your comb and start in the front.  Zig one way, zag the other. Zig. Zag. This is a zigzag parting. If you like that part but want to change it up, you can do a deeper more dramatic zigzag parting. Use the same technique, take the tip of your comb, zig a little further. Zag. Zig. Zag. This is a deeper, more dramatic zigzag parting.

Centered side part, you’ll part your hair down the middle like I taught you earlier. Then you’ll choose a side, right or left.  You’ll take about an inch from your hairline and comb this hair over to the side.  This is a centered side parting.

So, get experimental and play. You’ve got nothing to lose. If you don’t like it, you can re-wet your hair and start over.  I hope you have enjoyed this salon secret and have a great hair day.
